Ever since the establishment of the UCSF Photography Interest Club (PIC) in 2009, the PIC Photo Contest has become an annual tradition, and with each passing year, it continues to be received with increasing enthusiasm, making it a magnificent artistic outlet for the UCSF community.

This year, the annual contest will showcase the talent of the members of the UCSF community who have a passion for photography. From the 230 photos that were submitted, a jury comprised of professional photographers and members of the PIC have selected 30 photos that will be on display at two receptions: one on February 7 at the Faculty Alumni House from 5-7 p.m. and another on March 7 at Genentech Hall Atrium from 4-6 p.m.

At both receptions, attendees will be able to vote for their favorite photos. Free drinks and hors d’oeuvres will be served.

Leap’s 29th Annual Sandcastle Contest was held at Ocean Beach in San Francisco on Saturday, October 20. Participants included teams of architects, designers, contractors, corporations, engineers and local elementary school students. The contest is a fundraiser to support Leap’s arts education programs, but admission is free. This year’s theme was things that jump. This year’s “Best in Show,” depicting kamikaze penguins jumping off an iceberg into a shark’s mouth, was built by students at Garfield Elementary School and McCoppin Elementary of San Francisco. Mason Tran is a second-year dental student.

Younger members of the UCSF community enjoying Mission Bay's Block Party 6. Faculty, staff, students, and friends and neighbors of UCSF were treated to a beautiful sunny afternoon surrounded by great food, jugglers, the Farmers Market, free Ben & Jerry's ice cream, and fantastic music!
