Be A Maker

Monday, October 29, 2018

Located in room 345 on the main floor of the UCSF Library at Parnassus, the Makers Lab is the university's makerspace, where the UCSF community can unleash their natural creativity to discover new solutions to health science challenges. It is a creative, DIY space where students, faculty, researchers, and staff can tinker using 3D printers, virtual reality, arts & crafts.

It is a creative, DIY space where students, faculty, researchers, and staff can tinker using 3D printers, virtual reality, arts & crafts, programmable electronics, and much more all at no cost.

Want to 3D print your own business card or maybe custom lab equipment? You can do that in the Makers Lab. Want to program a robot to paint your own masterpiece? You can also do that in the Makers Lab!

Equipment can be reserved anytime the Makers Lab is open Monday to Friday, 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. and there is always a staff member available to help when questions come up.

You are also welcome to drop by to make a button or get creative with an endless amount of arts and crafts supplies. Not sure where to begin? Attend one of the many pop-ups scheduled throughout the month to get the information you need to get started on your maker project.

Learn more by visiting the Makers Lab website or stop by the next time you are in the UCSF Library.

Also make sure to follow the Makers Lab on Twitter and Instagram to see what others at UCSF are making.

Here’s what a UCSF student maker says:

“The UCSF Makers Lab is life-changing. It has already opened new possibilities for my career aspirations in the health sciences. Last year, I had no idea how to use a 3D printer. Today, I'm designing and building my custom research equipment and personal art projects. Just last week, a collaborator excitedly thanked me for a microscope adapter I created for them. They told me they couldn't find anything like it on the market, so my custom adapter was indispensable for their experiments. I have never thought of myself as creative. But thanks to the Makers Lab, I am constantly inspired to bring design to both work and play.”
