Humming Bird

I had the chance to take this picture while on a trip with my professor (who is also a birder) to San Rafael. We were driving down the road when my professor told me to get the camera in hand and be ready. That taught me that opportunity can strike anytime, and we must be ready to grab and seize it when it presents. A fact about these beautiful birds is that during the breeding season, adult Snowy Egrets develop long, wispy feathers on their backs, necks, and heads. In 1886 these plumes were valued at $32 per ounce, which was twice the price of gold at the time, which led to a lot of hunting until conservation events started for them.
