Synapse plays the vital role of strengthening the fabric of a widely-dispersed campus community by providing news about UCSF, and in particular, student life, that cannot be found anywhere else. All UCSF students are welcome to submit an article to our publication. Once a piece is received, it will be scheduled for publication on our website and in our newsletter, which is electronically distributed each Tuesday during the academic year.

General Guidelines

  • Articles
    • Articles should generally be between 400 and 900 words.
    • Articles should include who, what, when, where, why (i.e. who is hosting the event or did the presentation, what is this event, when and where will/did it take place, why is this event or subject important).
    • If including a quote, frame it as quote and include the speaker, and speaker’s title (i.e. “Synapse is great,” said Jane Doe, a 2nd year Physical Therapy Student).
  • Photos
    • Articles should include a high-resolution logo or photo with caption and photo credit (i.e. The founders of Club X from left to right: John Smith, Jane Doe, Bruce Wayne, photo credit: John Smith).
  • Byline
    • Articles must include the writer’s byline at the end of your submission (i.e. Jane Doe is a second-year physical therapy student).

Deadlines

Our editors will work with you to decide when to publish your piece. If you’re submitting a piece that is for a time sensitive announcement, please email synapse@ucsf.edu and make a note of when your event is occurring.
