Half Dome
Half Dome is a world-famous feature of Yosemite for good reason. This image features its towering granite face at a unique angle: head-on instead of the typical view from below that travelers in the valley would see. I love the way the scraggly trees form a natural frame around the main wall, with distinct bands of color composed of sky, granite, or tree needles. Seeing Half Dome from this perspective emphasizes its steadfastness and makes one wonder how rock climbers find the courage to scale its trunk. For those interested, this view is available via the North Dome trail, a relatively moderate hike by Yosemite standards.
