The Poet's Ghost

Monotropa uniflora, also known as the ghost plant or ghost pipe, emerges from the forest undergrowth in Aokigahara Forest near Mount Fuji. A favorite plant of the poet Emily Dickinson, this chlorophyll-free plant relies on fungi for its nutrients. It blooms for a few days after a rainfall, then turns black and crumples before returning to its underground life.
