University of California Student Regent Tour
Statement Release:
As the Student Regent and Student Regent-designate, one of the great privileges of our jobs is that we get to travel to each and every campus at the University of California. During our visits, we get the opportunity to dialogue with students from all walks of life, to confer with administrators, and to feel the pulse of every campus.
Over the course of the next two months, we will be traveling from campus to campus in order to provide students across the UC with better access to their Student Regents, while also imparting to them a greater understanding of the position which we hold. While these trips are incredibly valuable to our understanding of each campus, we know that few students at our university are generally aware of the Student Regent Tour.
During the coming weeks, we aim to change that.
The Student Regent Tour is meant to be a symbiotic arrangement. For us, the Student Regents, it provides an opportunity to see what life is like at campuses across the University of California by meeting with administrators and students. For you, the students, it provides an opportunity to make your voice heard across the UC. It gives you a way to meet with us face-to-face. It gives you a platform to raise your concerns.
We aim to revolutionize the way that students at the University of California interact with our governing body. Through our tour of the University, we want to inform students about what it is that we, as your Student Regents, are able to do for you.
A more precise itinerary for each of our campus visits will be released soon, but in the meantime, we would like to encourage you all to look to the schedule contained within this letter. The dates of each campus visit are below, and we hope they will allow for you and your organizations to plan in advance to schedule time to attend forums that we’ll be participating in:
UC Santa Barbara: January 12
UC Irvine: January 14
UC Santa Cruz: January 26
UC San Diego: January 28
UC San Francisco: February 2
UC Los Angeles: February 4
UC Davis: February 9
UC Riverside: February 10
UC Merced: February 11
UC Berkeley: TBD
We look forward to meeting with all of you. In the meantime, the application for the 2016-2017 Student Regent has been released. You can find it on the UC Regents’ website, as well as through links on each of our Facebook pages. We hope you will seriously consider applying; the best way you can influence the decisions made by the governing body of this great university is by getting involved.
Happy New Year, and welcome back to campus. We can’t wait to get to work!
Sincerely,
UC Student Regent Sadia Saifuddi
UC Student Regent Abraham "Avi" Oved
