Humans of UCSF: The Dancing Doctor
“The show ‘So You Think You Can Dance’ dramatically altered the course of my life. I remember at 12 years old being so enamored with the amazing dance moves, cool costumes, and perfect facial expressions. All I wanted was to be a performer just like the contestants on the show. However, a number of identity, confidence, and socioeconomic concerns combined to delay my dance debut until six years later.
During my first week at college, I tried out for one of the campus dance teams. Somehow I made it in and I've been dancing ever since. Even in medical school where time is sparse, I still carve out several hours a week to travel across the bay to dance with my professional hip-hop dance team Groove Against the Machine.”
