UCSF medical school is the top-ranked public medical school in the United States, according to a U.S. News and World Report survey of medical school deans.

The survey, published in the Nov, 2 edition of U.S. News and World Report, ranked UCSF fourth overall behind private medical schools at Harvard University, Johns Hopkins University, and the University of Pennsylvania.

An article accompanying the survey results noted that UCSF "has the thirdhighest minority enrollment among medical schools in the continental U.S. behind Howard and Meharry medical colleges, which are predominantly black."
