Tech Writer Talk

Monday, April 1, 2019

Editor's note: Due to a last minute NBC assignment, the Lunch & Learn with Jacob Ward has been rescheduled to Tuesday, April 16.

It's back on! Synapse — UCSF Student Voices, is proud to present a Lunch & Learn with Jacob Ward, science & tech contributor for CNN, Al Jazeera, and PBS, and NBC News technology correspondent.

Enjoy a boxed meal as Ward talks about where he began, his early career and his eventual trajectory to former editor-in-chief of Popular Science magazine, and contributor for The New York Times Magazine, The New Yorker, and Wired.

Ward is also a prolific and fascinating speaker, most recently hosting a 10-episode Audible podcast, Complicated, about humanity’s most difficult problems, and the upcoming four-hour public television series, Hacking Your Mind, about human decision making and irrationality.

And he is currently a 2018-2019 Berggruen Fellow at Stanford University’s Center for Advanced Study in the Behavioral Sciences, where he’s writing Black Box: Bias, AI, and the Fight to Amplify Humanity, which explores the unintended ways artificial intelligence will amplify good and bad human instincts.

Join us for a Lunch & Learn with Jacob Ward on April 16 from noon to 1 p.m. Limited seats available. Priority given to students. RSVP at synapse-jacob-ward-2019.eventbrite.com.
