ODO Welcomes All

Thursday, September 12, 2019

Welcome new and returning members of our campus community to the UCSF Office of Diversity and Outreach (ODO).

The ODO was established in 2010 to build a more diverse, inclusive, and equitable UCSF. We support all members of our community, including first generation, minorities, LGBT, people with disabilities, women, undocumented individuals and others.

Specifically, we work to increase diversity and improve equity through ongoing analysis, program development, accountability and collaboration with colleagues across UCSF and UCSF Health.

Please visit our website to learn more about the programs that we administer, including: Advancing Excellence in Faculty Recruitment; Center for Science Education and Outreach; Confidential CARE Advocate; Education and Training; LGBT Resource Center; Multicultural Resource Center; and the Office for the Prevention of Harassment and Discrimination.

We encourage your engagement and participation in committees and at our programs and centers. We host a number of events which I invite you all to attend. Fall is particularly busy, so check the UCSF Calendar of Events and our website for updates and other details:

  • October is Diversity Month at UCSF, and celebrations, gatherings, and other meetings are held. These include Meet-and-Greet Ice Cream Socials at the LGBT and Multicultural Resource Centers, the Coming Out Monologues, First Generation to College Welcome Dinner, International Pronouns Day, National Coming Out Day, Latinx Heritage Month Salsa Night, Queer and Trans People of Color, Multicultural Film Night featuring the film Us, and others.
  • Our Annual Health Disparities Research Symposium will be held on Friday, October 11.
  • October is also National Domestic Violence Awareness Month. The Office of the CARE Advocate offers a Yoga as Healing series and will be participating in the 19thAnnual UCSF Interpersonal Violence Prevention Conference.
  • The Chancellor’s State of the University address on Tuesday, October 15 is a university-wide event not to be missed, an occasion that brings the university together to celebrate milestones and discuss challenges and goals.
  • Further ahead, the Chancellor’s Leadership Forum for Diversity and Inclusion is scheduled for April 9, 2020. Attending the forum is an excellent opportunity to learn about diversity, equity and inclusion across UCSF and engage the Chancellor’s Cabinet members.

I also invite you to join the Diversity listserv. To subscribe send a message to listserv@listsrv.ucsf.edu. The one line of the message should read: Subscribe UCSFDiversityfirst name last name.

I hope that this will be a productive and happy year for all of you.
