Do We Fit?

Sometimes being with you feels like being a pearl with a crescent moon. There is a hollow, warm and safe, ready for me to snuggle into. I feel the warmth of your attention and a satisfied feeling from the comfort and ease of our interactions.

Then a stretch, a shift, and I become a circle next to a rectangular prism. No crevices - only a long, smooth, stretched out surface.

There is no space for me.

I search for hints of the hollow that was there before, but the signs grow dimmer by the day.

Life is full of rhythms - comfortable and then uncomfortable, contented and then discontented. Sometimes I wonder, though, what is our natural state - pearl with crescent or circle with prism?

How do I tell?
