Pink Triangle
The Pink Triangle, once used to label and persecute members of the LGBTQIA+ community in Nazi Germany, has become a symbol of pride and liberation. It has appeared in countless organizations and events and is featured in annual installations across the globe. Since 1996, local nonprofits and community leaders have volunteered their time to illuminate the San Francisco skyline with an installation of this symbol during PRIDE month. Although The Pink Triangle has been reclaimed as an empowering symbol, it is a reminder never to forget the past—and to recognize the dehumanization LGBTQIA+ people still face worldwide and the continual need to fight for equality.
