Humans of UCSF: Being Present

Thursday, April 7, 2016

“Yoga is a meditation that has taught me that being tender, open, and present is beautiful. My yoga practice takes me beyond the physical, to a place where I can find awareness in the mind.

“With the hustle and bustle of a new city and professional school, it is in this mind-body experience when I am able to find true bliss and stillness. The moment I step onto my mat, the memories from before or the what-ifs of the coming future do not matter. Yoga takes me into the present moment, the past and the future are not places – they are nowhere. You are either ‘now here’ or ‘nowhere.’

“My practice has been an incredible journey of growth and a continuing discovery of my authentic self, letting go of what no longer serves me. I am so incredibly grateful to have had the opportunity to immerse myself in such a beautiful art that has taught me values which I can practice both on and off the mat. Namasté.”
