Humans of UCSF: Dancing Stress Away

Thursday, May 12, 2016

“Having school from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. on most days and constantly studying after class, it’s easy to lose yourself and forget what makes you happy. I didn’t realize how much I missed and needed Cardio Barre until I felt emotional and physical stress from school. But what is Cardio Barre? Cardio Barre combines ballet dancing and exercising into a high intensity, upbeat exercise class. When I lay my hand on the barre and face the mirror, I suddenly forget about all my worries and simply listen to the beat of the music.

“Now, I'm not a professional ballet dancer or a perfect barre student — I'm just an amateur girl trying to follow my happiness and do what I love. I advocate all UCSF students to find something they enjoy and pursue it. Suggested by a close classmate, my next challenge is to become a barre instructor and motivate other individuals.”
